I am a writer at heart. It's always been my preferred method of communication. In college, I discovered my love for science, and In the summer of 2019 I got to experience for the first time how these two passions can come together In an exciting and productive way (see Selected Work below).
I believe teachers are communications experts - able to tailor complex topics to diverse audiences by engaging and iterating.
I've written wedding ceremonies for strangers across the globe, newsletters for organizations, edited corporate training materials, and ghost written biographical stories. If you're looking for a writing sample that you don't see here, feel free to ask!
Small but mighty: Harnessing the tiny exosome for better drug delivery and disease diagnosis
While participating in the University of Pennsylvania's summer Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program, I wrote the script for and proposed the production of this video as a collaborative effort between UPenn and YouReka Science. While working with members of two labs on campus - the Radhakrishnan Lab and the Burdick Lab, I noticed commonalities in what the two teams were studying - cartilage replacement therapy. From there, I sought out additional research in the form of peer reviewed scientific journal articles and hands-on experiences in the Burdick Lab and wrote the script for an educational video that would serve to inform the public about this important research being conducted. Once the script had been finalized, I also took advantage of the unique and exciting opportunity to complete the voiceover for the video!
As a freelancer, I connected with a professional who created informative and instructional videos about teaching strategies and tools. He posted these for free on YouTube. I wrote the video scripts and provided storyboards for several of his educational videos. Unfortunately, the YouTube account has been closed, and since I did not own the videos themselves, they can no longer be viewed. However, this was a collaborative process that I completed as a freelancer beginning with scripting and storyboarding and ending with the production of an animated instructional video. I engaged In this process several times to create a free library of resources for teachers, and I have the word documents of the scripts (furnished upon request).
